Champion beard 1

What do you usually get up to on a Sunday? Do you have a nice Sunday roast with the family or go for a nice walk through the countryside with the love of your life. Well this Sunday a few of the world’s most discerning gentlemen got together Trondheim, Norway to sculpt the crap out of their facial hair. Yes it is the favourite annual event of facial hair aficionados, the 2011 World Beard and Moustache Championships in which fluffy-faced men (mostly I assume) compete in a number of categories including freestyle moustache category and full beard natural category.

This year’s big winner was Germany’s Elmar Weisser, taking the title of World’s Best Beard, with an elaborate moose themed beard sculpture, beating off an impressive 160 other contestants. It is the third time Mr Weisser has emerged as champion. In 2005 he won with with a beard styled into the shape of Berlin's Brandenburg Gate, and in 2007 with a representation of London's Tower Bridge. He said he had begun preparing his creation for the Trondheim event at 7am, with the help of his sister.

So inspired by Elmar’s achievement I have hunted out some of the best beard sculptures I could find. So sit back and have a gander at these babies:-

Here is good old Elmar once again with his 2005 championship winning entry with his beard expertly styled into a rather accurate and detailed representation of London’s Tower Bridge. And don’t you think he just has the jolliest smile? Seems like such a nice chap.

Would you look at that intricate plaiting…I would certainly let him plait my hair if he can do a job like that on his beard. His name is David Traver and he won the World Beard Championship with that 20.5 inch hair masterpiece. It took almost 3 years to grow and 90 minutes to weave. I actually think there is something quite sexy about him…just don’t tell my boyfriend, his designer stubble seems wimpy by comparison.

I don’t know who this guy is, but I do know he is from the 2007 Championships that were held in Brighton. I also know that this guys goatee and moustache combination is awesome. It’s like a face slinky…what is not to love?

This is your friendly neighbourhood hair guru signing off...until next time citizens
