Actress Cynthia Nixon is probably best known for her portrayal of ballsy lawyer Miranda Hobbes in Sex and the City, recognised for her flaming red locks. Well it looks like Cynthia has left Miranda and her trademark behind when earlier this week she revealed a newly shaven head on American TV show Live with Kelly.

It’s not an unusual new style choice for the actress; Cynthia has bravely shaved off her trademark locks for her new Broadway show, entitled ‘Wit’.  In the show Cynthia plays the role of Professor Vivian Bearing, an ailing cancer patient, at the Samuel J. Friedman theatre in the show which is set to debut on Friday 27th January.

Many of us sometimes fantasise about shaving our heads, because we can say good bye to the fuss of washing, drying, styling, colouring and straightening out hair, only hesitating because we are sure that our bald head will be lumpy and hideous.

Well Cynthia must be pleased to know that her head is a pretty great shape, but with her shaven head being integral to her theatre role it isn’t as convenient as you might think. Cynthia says “I thought it was kind of gonna be no muss-no fuss, but I have to shave it every day! I was kind of curious to see what it would be like. I like it; I don’t think I’m gonna keep it forever.”

The role is one that is close Cynthia’s heart, as she herself discovered she had the early stages of breast cancer during a routine mammogram in 2006. She underwent a lumpectomy and radiation, and continues to take the breast cancer prevention drug Tamoxifen.  Of her on-stage role she says “she gets a really bad cancer diagnosis and she goes through this really heavy-duty chemo and she meets that challenge, but she learns a lot about herself.”

Well we think Cynthia looks great and we wish her the best of luck with her new challenge.
