Singing in the Rain

So we are right in the middle of summer, so that can only mean one thing in Britain…rain, and lots of it. All of our shorts and cute little summer dresses are essentially useless. Wearers of fake tan are immediately spotted as giant frauds as they leave splashes of orange in every puddle they walk through as the rain washes them out…literally.

Rainy days are not just the enemy of your flesh baring summer wardrobes, but they are possible the number 2 enemy (after wind) to the good hair day. Is it even possible to have a good hair day in the rain? Can you beat the frizz and the scraggly rat’s tails? Well I think it is and here’s how:

- Avoid a blow-dry; when mixed with rain (especially that really annoying misty rain), a frizzy mess is the inevitable result. Instead try some good quality hot roller – put the hot rollers throughout the whole hair and spray liberally with a curl spray. Once the curls are set, separate them with a gentle comb through using just the fingers and pull up into a messy yet stylish high ponytail. Loosen a few tendrils and your ready for the rain – a little bit of frizz would hurt the curls too much.

- For longer hair, plait the hair in a hobo side plait and smooth over with a good shining spray so you look like you have just pulled yourself from the swimming pool rather than water-logged. For shorter styles, put is two or three little French-style plaits and scrunch any loose hair with a good sea-salt spray, for a cute messy boho/elvish look. Accessorise with some gorgeous accessories for a day-to night look.

- If you really can’t stand the effects of the rain and damp on your hair, you may want to consider a permanent perm or straighten. Before you do, make sure you talk to a professional hair stylist and have them carry out a allergy skin test for any products used.

If all that fails, buy a hat…a big one.
