Colour, Colour Everywhere – Part 1

Saturday, 12 November 2011 19:16:18 Europe/London

Christmas is quickly approaching, and that means party season is right behind it – is there a better reason to do something exciting and different with your hair? I think not! But, it can be difficult to decide what exactly to do with your hair – you don’t want to go and just pick a colour at random and find out all too late that it’s not for you.

Thakoon Hair Painting

There is no need to randomly pick a colour; from the catwalks of your favourite designers, to the scenes of your favourite movie, there is colour inspiration everywhere. A few weeks ago I got the colour inspiration started with the hottest hair colour looks to come from the Spring/Summer 2012 catwalks – The painted pastel styles seen on the catwalks of Thakoon were especially impressive.

Well the inspiration doesn’t stop there, so let me get you started, with some of the hottest colour looks around both past and present.

Milla Jovovich in The Fifth Element

Milla Jovovich in the Fifth Element

Gorgeous Milla Jovovich has never been better as the beautiful yet deadly Leeloo in the 1997 sci-fi hit The Fifth Element. While, Bruce Willis looked slightly ridiculous with his bleached blonde and heavily balding ‘do’, Milla looked stunning with a bright orange bob, with bright blonde roots - the vibrant shades complement her peaches and cream complexion to perfection. Two-tone styles are avery popular look for the moment, so choose two colours and experiment, but as ever when colouring your hair always do a patch test 48 hours in advance.

Meadham Kirchoff – Spring/Summer 2012

Meadham Kirchoff

There was painted hair aplenty on the Spring/Summer 2012 catwalks, and although the delicately frosted up-do’s from Thakoon easily took the crown for the best, there were some worthy runners up. The over-painted super curled styles seen on the Meadham Kirchoff catwalks were super cute and candy sweet. Creating a new, directional take on the colour streak – get out the heated rollers, curl up that hair and clip in a few pastel coloured hair extensions to create this look at home with ease.

Amber Valletta in Gamer

Amber Valletta in Gamer

Actress Amber Valletta is one attractive woman and she was positively sizzling in Gamer as Angie, the hard done by wife of convict Gerrard Butler, who moonlights as a sexy avatar for a after dark version of The Sims. As the avatar, controlled by a seriously, unpleasant fat guy, has several different hairstyles in the movie, but my ultimate favourite has to be the icy blue long bob, with blunt fringe. Icy blue is a great colour for winter – it will transform you into a glamorous snow queen when teamed with a fab faux fur jacket.

Alison Mosshart from The Kills

Alison from the Kills

Sensational rock chic Alison Mosshart, has one of the greatest hairstyles in rock history, with her heavy fringe and long wavy layers all in a gorgeous midnight shade. Well in September of this year, Alison decided it was time for a change – going against the usual ombre trend of dying everything but the roots, by instead dying her roots in a rich pinky-red leaving the rest her usual black. What a great look.

Stay tuned for next week for more hair colour inspiration from past and present.
