Think Pink

Charlotte Free

It’s time to breathe a sigh of relief; according to the guardian (a real newspaper and everything so it has to be true) that crappy schizophrenic hair cuts and torturous up-do’s are out. The latest trend when it comes to hair is colour; a trend that is championed by my favourite hair icon and urban princess Nicki Minaj. It seems other celebs are following Nicki like rats to the Pied Piper of Hamlin and going tropical when it comes to hair colour. Even super bore and general wallflower, Ellie Goulding has jumped on the bandwagon, spotted out with a pink mane recently.

Apart from my girl crush, Miss Minaj, the pink hair trend has been heavily driven by emerging model, Charlotte Free, who has a shock of pink hair often tied up in pigtails that gives her a hard punky edge. Who said pink was for only for sweet and innocent girly girls. Yes throughout history pink has sometimes been associated with negative gender stereotypes that some feminists groups have sought to 'reclaim' it. Lighten up bra burners; stereotypes are only negative if you accept them to be. Pink is a colour that now universally represents breast cancer awareness and with the Race for Life and all it’s pink loveliness, just round the corner, the time has never been better to go pink.

Remember girls you wear the colour, the colour doesn’t wear you. And here at Hairbomb our favourite wearer of pink is the lovely Rachael Neiman; a definite Hairbomb hero.

Rachael Neiman

Not only is her long pink hair totally rocking, but she is also an inspiration to all of us here at Hairbomb. The University Challenge (she’s super smart – I don’t even understand the questions on that show) contestant lost her sight at 17 due to rheumatoid arthritis has never let being blind get in the way of leading a normal life. She hasn’t let it or anything else stand in her way. Despite the fact that I’m older than the lovely Rachael, when I grow up, I want to be like her.

This is your friendly neighbourhood hair guru signing off...until next time citizens
