Ring-Ring! Ring-Ring!
“Hello…yes…I’ll let them know”
“Nicole, Reese, Sharon and Michelle; the sixties have been on the phone…they want their hair back”
Of course, I joke, the decade of the 1960’s has not actually called me and asked me to deliver a message to four of the biggest stars in Hollywood, but if a decade could call as demand their trademark locks, they would be dialling frantically.
The ‘Ladylike Sixties’ trend that filled the catwalks of the various fashion weeks in February made the leap to the red carpet for the 2011 Oscars.

Both Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon went for chic sixties-style ponytails with added volume at the crown; the resultant look was classy and sophisticated…way to go girls. For Nicole, hairstylist David Barbour, went for a more subtle look to channel sixties icon Brigette Bardot, a few loose bangs over the eyes gave the whole look a playful edge. Reese’s hair guru, Renato Campora, went for a more vamped up look, pumping up the volume in the crown; she may have looked like ‘Retro Barbie’ come to life, but take me to the toy store because she looked fantastic.
If I may engage in a bit of playful teasing of Sharon Stone and she certainly engaged in a lot of teasing of her hair. It was backcombed within an inch of its life into an enormous (almost beehive-style) bouffant that made her hair look like it was trying to escape off the top of her head. For a woman of almost 53, there is no denying she looks fantastic, but she really should leave the ‘Jeward’ look where it belongs, on the heads of two irritating, Irish idiots so it can disappear forever when they do.
Not everyone went for the 6o’s hair trend with ‘brick through a window’ subtlety; Michelle Williams went for a super cute pixie crop, created by Chris McMillan, that channelled sixties supermodel Twiggy. Yes it is the haircut seen on many 8 year old boys around the world, but it must be said that the short length and bombshell blonde colour suited her face shape and skin tone beautifully.
So ladies follow in the footsteps of these glamorous Hollywood ladies, maybe not Miss Stone…sorry Sharon, and take a trip back in time.
