A few years ago, fashion designer Alexander Wang, sent his models down the catwalk at New York Fashion week for his Spring/Summer 2010. The gorgeous models were sporting the most beautiful and effortlessly stylish long messy side plaits; I predicted a massive hair trend had been born. However, the world clearly did not see mine and Alexander Wang’s genius, because it didn’t seem to catch on.

A few of the insufferably boring celebrities that never deviate from the boho style (yawn), such as the Olsen twins (two-eggs, one personality), Sienna Miller (someone give the girl acting lessons) and Fern Cotton (irritating woman-child). This probably hampered the hair styles emergence into the spotlight.

Thankfully, things appear to be changing and I am so pleased. The long Grecian style side plait is a great style for the up and coming summer months and gorgeous sunny days (fingers crossed) and will go with any summer style your testing out, be it the chic seventies look or the nautical look that reappears each year. I might have to buy some hair extensions to be able to repeat this look for myself. I treated myself to an elfish crop a few months ago…it looked great for two weeks an now looks a mess; any suggestions on what I can do will be greatly appreciated.

Anyway getting back on subject; gorgeous and super stylish Rhianna was photographed earlier this week with the perfect side plait, in the perfect shade of red (check out the red shades we have here at Hairbomb). Cheryl Cole has also been a fan of the side plait recently, going for the messy Alexander Wang style. All we need now is the cast from The Only Way is Essex to sport the look and the trend will really take off (of course I’m kidding here; I do not want those umpa loompa’s running my favourite summer hair trend).
