If there was an Oscar for best hair (and there isn’t because frankly that would be ridiculous) Reese Witherspoon would surely have walked away with the little gold man for her sixties inspired ponytail. Yes it may be obvious that she is sporting a huge clump of hair extensions and the bouffant and her trademark pointed chin may have made her face appear even longer than usual, but she still looked stunning. Her neutral make-up and simple accessorises made her glossy up-do really pop on the red carpet and if you want to be a sixties siren like Reese, and don’t have Frederic Fekkai hairstylist Renato Campora at your disposal, here’s how you can create the look easily at home.

To build up the volume in the ponytail, you will need hair extensions for this look so invest in some good ‘real-hair’ extensions; these can be dyed to match your natural colour, can be washed and can be styled easily.

1.)    Clip in hair-extensions are the easiest varieties to put into the hair as they just clip onto your own hair. Split the hair into two sections and clip on top of the head with large clips and clip the extensions carefully underneath your real hair.

2.)    Release the hair and ensure that the joins of the hair extensions are not visible. Once again split the hair into two sections and clip the layer on the crown of the head.

3.)    Curl the bottom layer with a large curling iron and tease the top section with a fine tooth comb to as some volume at the roots.

4.)    Sweep the hair back and secure at the crown with a simple band that can be easily hidden by the hair. And it’s as simple as that.

Now you ready to rock the retro look like a sixties superstar; Brigette Bardot and Barbarella will have nothing on you. Team the look with neutral makeup; a delicate pink lip and a black-lined top lid, with heavy black mascara on the top lashes (think Twiggy). Wear with a vintage 60’s style shift dress and simple accessories and every straight man in a 10 mile radius will want you on their arm (and the not so straight men will want you as their hag…I know, I’m terrible).
