dip dye2

Hey Hairbomb. I have decided to dip dye my hair. But I want to have more then one colour in my hair. I wondered if you can suggest the colours that work the best together because I haven't really got a clue! Thanks :)

Hey there,

Ooh the choice can be such a dilemma, can’t it?

OK, so this does have an element of personal aesthetic choice to it, but we think that colours that are quite close to each other on the colour wheel work best...essentially a combination of warm colours or cool colours. So blue and turquoise, or bluey purple and turquoise, even as far as pink and turquoise. This colour combo is probably our all time favourite When you start to move over to orange and turquoise, it can look a little more jarring.

But obviously rules are made to be broken, and this colour combo for example, looks striking. It is pretty out-there though! We can’t get the idea of Christmas out of our head when we see red and green together, so if you are keen on those colours, try a darker green with a pinky red.

We suggest sticking with two or three colours to start with, then think about some more. If you start with more in advance it will look more like a rainbow (also lovely, but works best when you work through the rainbow in order, so does require an organised approach).

We would also say that if you are wanting the colours to be more pastel in colour, you can get away with more colours, like here. What is your  natural hair colour (the bits that aren’t going to be dip dyed)? As a rule, pastel colours work better on blonde hair. Remember if your hair is dark you will need to bleach the tips before you colour.

Lastly, have a look through our gallery Dip Dye section and see if anything takes your fancy. Feel free to give us a shout if we can advise you on which products you can achieve a look with.

Enjoy!
