Thanks for visiting us at Hairbomb. We’ve put together a guide to give you a hand creating, but there are also looads more tips and info at www.hairbomb.com
1) COME UP WITH A PLAN
Get a general idea of the look/theme. Our gallery has inspiration - or else, pave the way, get the gloves on and go for it. And don’t forget to send us the pics when you do – you’ll get 10% off your next order!
2) PREPARE VOTRE HAIR!
Shampoo your hair with a clarifying shampoo, but don’t use Conditioner! Dry hair completely, but carefully. If time, let it dry naturally as hair is more susceptible to damage without Conditioner.
3) PREPARE THE AREA!
Get your bits together, quickly whilst the inspiration is with you ! Ideally you will need:
- Thin Gloves (we use several pairs), old Towels /binbags, plates/old ice cream tubs/mixing palettes (pots in squeezy bottles are a nightmare when you’re in the middle of everything), Tint Brushes, Tailcomb or similar, Hairclips/ rubber bands, Face wipes
-A large mirror AND a smaller portable mirror so you can see what’s going on at the back!
4) BREAK IT UP
Divide the hair into four main sections. At the front, make a centre parting, or side parting if that is how you wear your hair, and drag it back to the crown (where the Buddhist monks leave their little lock of hair). Divide further sub-sections as necessary.
Lather the skin around your hairline all the way round with either Vaseline or (we prefer) conditioner. It coats the skin, so when you do turn an ear pink, tis easily wiped off.
And you’re ready to go – get some music on and start creating! We find starting at the back and working toward the front works best for us. As you finish dyeing each section, it can help to tie it in a mini bun to keep it from staining other areas.
7) THE AFTERMATH
After you’ve finished, try to leave the dye in as long as possible. Overnight, wrapped in a towel is best, but if you are as disorganised as us, using a hairdryer on hot speeds up the process. Although standard length of time is 15 minutes, it is safe to leave it in longer (as long as you have done a skin allergy test!) we recommend 1 hour minimum.
8) WASHING OUT
When washing your hair out, put a pair of gloves back on if you don’t want to stain your hands. We find the best method is to stick your head upside down in the shower and use lukewarm water for the first rinse. This can prevent the colours from merging, so try to rinse as much out as you can before shampooing -
(Redken’s Color Extend Shampoo is fabby).
You can’t always rinse until the water runs clear, but rinse water colour should be pretty diluted. If you have it to hand, a quick rinse of White Vinegar-Water mix (50/50), followed by a final cold rinse will all help to keep the colour in for longer.
Now come show us your gorgeous results and share the love!
